GEO in Türkiye: AI visibility for Turkish-language questions

What changes when customers ask AI assistants in Turkish: language, spelling, local sources and markets, and how to track AI visibility in Türkiye.

GEO in Türkiye (Turkey) means understanding and improving how AI assistants present your brand when people in Türkiye ask them questions, usually in Turkish. The principles are the same everywhere, but the language, the spelling of names, the local sources and the amount of Turkish content on a topic all change what you should track and what you should fix. This guide sticks to what we can say with confidence, and points out what you should check in your own data.

Why measure Turkish questions separately?

Because an assistant's answer depends on the language and the market of the question. The same question asked in Turkish and in English can produce different brand lists, different sources and sometimes a different answer language. If you sell in Türkiye, results for English questions tell you little about what a Turkish customer sees.

Local constraints change the answer too. Turkish buyers often ask with conditions that only make sense locally: prices in Turkish lira, delivery within Türkiye, a specific city, compliance with KVKK (Türkiye's personal data protection law) or e-invoicing (e-Fatura). A brand that meets these conditions but never says so on its pages gives the assistant nothing to go on.

How do Turkish customers phrase their questions?

Collect real questions before you track anything. Common Turkish patterns include:

  • "... için en iyi ... hangisi?" (which is the best ... for ...?)
  • "... önerir misin?" (can you recommend ...?)
  • "... mı, ... mı?" (... or ...?)
  • "... fiyatları ne kadar?" (how much does ... cost?)
  • "İstanbul'da ... nerede bulabilirim?" (where can I find ... in İstanbul?)

Many people type without Turkish characters, especially on a phone ("en iyi muhasebe programi" instead of "programı"), use English category words such as CRM, SaaS or ERP, or mix both languages. Track the variants your customers actually use. Sales calls, support tickets, your site search and the search queries in Google Search Console are good sources.

Which language does the assistant answer in?

Assistants usually answer in the language of the question, but not always. A Turkish question can get an answer with English passages, English product descriptions or mostly English sources. Geovium asks the assistant to answer in the question's language and flags a language mismatch when the answer comes back in another language. If mismatches are frequent for a topic, one possible reason is that little Turkish material on that topic reached the assistant; check the sources those answers cite.

Are there enough Turkish sources on your topic?

For many specialized topics, especially in B2B software, there is noticeably less Turkish content on the web than English content. This has two practical consequences worth checking in your own data:

  • When a Turkish answer cites sources, look at whether they are Turkish sites, international sites or both. That tells you which pages shape Turkish answers in your category.
  • Where few good Turkish pages exist, a single clear, specific and current Turkish page from you has less competition as a candidate source.

Treat both as hypotheses to verify in your cited-sources report rather than as rules. Our guide to cited sources explains how to read that report.

How do Turkish characters and suffixes affect brand detection?

Turkish creates a few pitfalls for any tool that looks for your brand in an answer:

  • Dotted and dotless i. Turkish has four letters where English has two (I, ı, İ, i). Standard lowercasing turns "I" into "i", which is wrong in Turkish, so a naive tool can miss or mismatch names. Geovium matches brand names with Turkish-aware case rules.
  • Suffixes. Turkish attaches suffixes to names: "Geovium'u", "Geovium'dan". With an apostrophe, the name itself stays intact and is still recognized. In informal writing the apostrophe is sometimes dropped, and a fused form may not be recognized; if customers often write your name that way, add that spelling as a brand term.
  • Dropped characters. A name with ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş or ü is often written without them, for example "Cozum Yazilim" for a fictional brand called "Çözüm Yazılım". Add the plain-letter spelling as a brand term too. Domain names are usually written in plain letters already.

Which local signals should you check?

Rather than guessing which Turkish sites assistants trust, check which ones they actually cite for your questions. Candidates worth looking for:

  • Google Business Profile listings, for questions about a place or a city.
  • Marketplaces and review platforms your buyers use, such as Trendyol, Hepsiburada or Şikayetvar, depending on your category.
  • Turkish media, industry publications, associations and directories.
  • Your own Turkish pages, with the details Turkish buyers ask about: prices in lira, Turkish-language support, delivery areas, invoicing and KVKK compliance.
  • Consistent company details, such as trade name, address and phone number, across all these places.

How should you set up tracking for Türkiye?

  1. Write the questions in Turkish, the way customers write them, including plain-letter variants where they are common.
  2. Track key questions in English as well if you also sell to English-speaking customers, as separate questions, so you can compare the two.
  3. Set the market. Tie questions to Türkiye and, for local businesses, to cities such as İstanbul, Ankara or İzmir. Geovium lets you set a country, region or city on each question and shows how often you are mentioned in each city you track.
  4. Add your brand terms and spelling variants, and your competitors, both local and international.
  5. Group questions into topics and set their importance, so the questions that matter most count more.
  6. Watch language mismatches and cited sources for the Turkish answers, not only your score.
  7. Scan regularly, and compare several periods before drawing conclusions.

What does a question set for Türkiye look like?

Here is an example for a fictional accounting software company, "Çözüm Yazılım", that sells to small businesses across Türkiye and has a strong customer base in İzmir:

QuestionLanguageMarketTopicImportance

A set like this covers the category, a local legal requirement, a comparison, a city, a plain-letter variant and one English version of the main question, so you can see where you are missing and why.

What don't we know yet?

We do not publish figures on how many people in Türkiye use each assistant, and we would rather not repeat unverified ones. How assistants handle Turkish also changes with model updates. The honest approach is to measure your own category, with your own questions, over time, rather than rely on generalizations about "the Turkish market".

How does Geovium support Turkish?

Geovium is built for Turkish as well as English: the product and this website are available in both languages, and the company has an office in İstanbul. Questions can be written in Turkish and tied to Türkiye, a region or a city; brand names are matched with Turkish-aware case rules; answers in a different language from the question are flagged; tasks and content briefs are written in the language you use the product in; and the Google Business Profile integration reads your store locations for local questions. The scoring is the same for every language; see our methodology and the platform page. For a buyer's view of the tool category, read our AI visibility tools guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do AI assistants answer Turkish questions in Turkish?

Usually, but not always. Answers can include English passages or rely on English sources, especially on topics with little Turkish content. Track language mismatches to see how often this happens in your category.

Should I track my questions in Turkish or in English?

In the languages your customers use. If you sell in Türkiye, track Turkish questions; if you also sell internationally, track the key questions in English separately and compare the results.

Does it matter if my brand name has Turkish characters?

It can. Names with Turkish characters are often written without them, and informal text sometimes drops the apostrophe before a suffix. Add the common spellings as brand terms so that these mentions are recognized.

Which AI assistants can I track for Turkish questions?

Geovium asks Turkish questions to the same five assistants as questions in any other language: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Grok, through their official APIs with web search on by default.

Is GEO in Türkiye different from GEO elsewhere?

The principles are the same. What differs is the language, the spelling of names, the local sources and platforms, and often the amount of Turkish content on a topic, which is why Turkish questions should be tracked separately.
